Conservation Holidays

Date Occurs 04/08/2017 - 06/08/2017
Time Taster Weekend
Age range Adults
Admission £40 per weekend

A first for central Scotland, Dean Castle Country Park’s brand new outdoor education centre is offering exciting residential volunteering holidays. Two special offer taster all-inclusive weekends will be running this summer and autumn to give you a taste of practical conservation.

4-6 Aug Rhodie Bashing

Help us eradicate Rhododendron

Ponticum, an invasive species that can take over native woodland. We’ll be using tools and pulling it out by hand. If the weather’s fine, we’ll also try our hand at moth trapping in the evening or maybe go for a bat walk.

Also on the weekend of Fri 13 Oct - Sun 15 Oct - Coppicing

Have a go at coppicing this October. This traditional woodland management skill allows light to reach the woodland floor creating a more varied habitat and canopy in the woodland. We’ll also try some coppice crafts, shaping the coppicing sticks for use in hedge-laying and hurdle-making.
