Books and Reading
We stock fiction, non-fiction, talking books, large print, magazines, graphic novels and much more.
We have a large selection of adult fiction in both hardback and paperback including sci-fi, crime, romance, westerns, comedy, family sagas and thrillers as well as classics and works by local authors.
Our non-fiction collection covers a wide range of topics from arts and crafts to study-guides on computers and school work. We also have a range of ‘self-help’ books.
Both fiction and non-fiction titles available in large print format for readers with visual impairments.
The Dick Institute, Cumnock, Stewarton and Patna Libraries have a selection of magazines available to borrow. Titles cover a range of subjects from popular women’s magazines to areas such as gardening, weddings, and craft magazines.
Audio or talking books are available in CD format. These books open up the world of reading to those with visual impairments as well as those learning to read. Talking books are perfect to listen to when ironing, gardening or even long car journeys.
We regularly add smaller collections to our libraries such as Scottish writing sections, ‘quick reads’ (ideal for commuters) or books for people with literacy problems.
You can also make suggestions for books which you think we should include in our collection.
