Archives

´╗┐Our Archive collections are the unique records of our local and national heritage. They help us to understand our past and tell the story of our communities by preserving the memory of businesses, organisations and families for future generations.

Material held at Burns Monument Centre includes official records from the East Ayrshire burghs of Cumnock, Darvel, Galston, Kilmarnock, Newmilns and Greenholm and Stewarton, dating back to the 1600s. We have a significant collection of Church records from the Ayr and Irvine Presbyteries. We also hold non-official records including documents and photographs from local businesses, groups, societies and estates. These records tell the fascinating story of many aspects of the history of this area.

Our archives are managed by Ayrshire Archives, a pan-Ayrshire organisation dedicated to preserving Ayrshire’s documentary heritage.

Access to Archives by appointment – please contact Ayrshire Archives on archives@south-ayrshire.gov.uk or 01292 521819.
