Local Handball Coach off to IHF Championships

We would like to send a massive congratulations to East Ayrshire Leisure sports coach Ross Strachan on being selected for Team GB senior men’s handball team.

Ross has coached handball at St Joseph’s Leisure Centre, in partnership with the New Farm Community Sports Hub, since January this year. He will meet the team in Stoke for final preparations before flying to Bulgaria to compete at the IHF Emerging Nations Championships.

Ross has been selected as part of the Great Britain 14-man squad drawn in Group B along with Luxembourg, Georgia and Malta. The last IHF Emerging Nations Championships were held in 2015 in Kosovo when the Faroe Isles, Latvia, and Kosovo won the Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively.

We would like to wish Ross all the best on the upcoming tournament and are delighted for him to be selected to represent Great Britain in the rapidly emerging sport of handball.

The Handball Club for children in P1-P7 meets at St Joseph’s Leisure Centre on Thursdays from 6-7pm.
