Primary schools battle it out at Sportshall Athletics Final

Excitement, competition and energy filled the air when the Sportshall Athletics Final came to the Ayrshire Athletics Arena on Friday, October 6.

37 primary schools in East Ayrshire have been eagerly battling it out over the past six weeks to win a place in last Friday’s final. Each school trained hard for their heat, which consisted of indoor adapted track and field events, all of which tested participants’ skills in running, jumping and throwing. Points were collected by each participant, adding to the teams’ overall totals.

After several weeks of hard work and great performances, Onthank, Nether Robertland, Drongan and Mauchline primaries earned their places in the final.

Their impressive performances on Friday had everyone on the edge of their seats, cheering on their school in each event. The young athletes all showed a great level of sportsmanship and commitment, for which their teachers are to be commended.

Onthank Primary came out on top in the end, with an impressive score of 1880, followed by Nether Robertland who came second with 1440.

Kindly attending the event to present the awards and close the final were the Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Leisure John Griffiths and Vice Chair of East Ayrshire Leisure Robin Hume.

Onthank will now go on to represent East Ayrshire at the Regional Final at the start of 2018; we wish them the best of luck.
