Community Sports Hub Launch success

The Grange Community Sports Hub and its partners had an official launch packed full of activities on Saturday 12th September at the Grange Leisure Centre. It was a busy afternoon of free activities for all ages including Funtastic party games, inflatables as well as taster sessions of football, badminton, golf, yoga, bowling, rugby and much more!

The sessions were led by qualified instructors from a range of Sports Hub partners - East Ayrshire Leisure, Kilmarnock Football Club, Kilmarnock Leisure Education Association (KLEA), Hurlford Badminton Club, Kilmarnock & District Badminton Club, Kilmarnock Portland Football Club, Annanhill Golf Club, Springhill Bowling Club, Cluarankwai Grange Judo Club, Active Schools, Vibrant Communities and Grange Academy.

Community Sports Hubs have a simple aim - to provide a home for sport. They focus on the clubs and other local organisations that want to work together to improve the sport offered in their local community. The network of 142 hubs across Scotland bring together clubs and other local organisations who want to work together for the benefit of sport. Each hub aims to increase participation in sport, develop community leadership and engagement and offer a range of sports for people to enjoy. The Grange Community Sports Hub is a partnership of all the sport & recreation clubs that operate in and around the radius of the Grange Leisure Centre, working together to provide more opportunities for the community. Community sport hubs are a key part of sportscotland’s contribution to Legacy 2014 and are supported by National Lottery funding.

Stewart Harris, sportscotland’s Chief Executive, says: “Grange CSH is an excellent example of the positive impact sport can have on local communities. There are many people involved in Community Sport Hubs, including volunteers, coaches, co-ordinators and participants, and a key factor in their success is that they are driven by the local communities they serve. It’s fantastic to see such a great array of sports on offer and strong partnerships at work here.”
