First Ever Walking Football Tournament is Great Success
It's been just over two weeks since our very first walking football tournament, and East Ayrshire Leisure is still buzzing from an exciting day of sportsmanship and good fun.
Six teams turned up for their chance to walk away with the first ever East Ayrshire walking football trophy. The tournament was organised by East Ayrshire Leisure, in partnership with the Stewarton Community Sports Hub, following the popularity of its walking football sessions across Stewarton, Catrine, Patna, Muirkirk and Mauchline.
A big congratulations is sent out to Hearts for winning the tournament, and to Ayr United, the runners up.
Some excellent football was played by the Stewarton Walking Football Club, Ayr United, Prestwick United, Hearts (two teams) and the North West Walking Football Club.
Walking football is a great way for those aged 50 and above to keep active and stay involved with football if they are for any reason unable to pay the traditional game. It has been shown to improve both physical and mental health, as well as providing an engaging social atmosphere.
