Survey Volunteering

Are you passionate about nature? Help us monitor the wildlife and habitats which make Dean Castle Country Park home. We survey for butterflies, hay-meadow species, invertebrates, mammals, amphibians and much more. We carry out surveying most Tuesdays in July and August under the guidance of the Ranger Service.

 What’s involved in being a Survey Volunteer?

Train in survey techniques and ID

Get some exercise and fresh air

Meet new people from all walks of life

Get inside knowledge of working in conservation

Carrying out surveys such as hedgerow plants, butterflies, bees and bird boxes

Learning to carry out surveys independently

Contributing ideas for survey or conservation work needed.

Digitally recording information from surveys


This role is for you, if you are:

Available on Tuesdays from 6th July – 10th August 1.30-3.00pm

Keen to learn new skills and knowledge

Happy in the outdoors & reasonably fit

Would like to gain meaningful experience in conservation


Further Information:

We’ll help you get to know Dean Castle Country Park, how you can help and how you will work with the rest of the team.

We provide equipment to help you do this role well and safely.

We’ll also cover agreed costs of your travel between home and Dean Castle Country Park subject to a limit of 20 miles per round trip.

Remember to wear sturdy working clothes you don’t mind getting dirty & bring waterproofs or sun cream depending on the weather.
