Michael Morpurgo, A Lifetime in Stories
|Date||Occurs 14/08/2018 - 05/01/2019|
|Time||Tues - Sat|
|Admission||£2 under 16s/ £5 adults|
Our school visits to Morpurgo start tomorrow 28/9. Between 10am & 12pm, Wed and Fri mornings, the exhibition will not be open to the general public.
Michael Morpurgo is one of Britain’s best loved story makers and the author behind some of the most loved children’s books. For the first time this unique exhibition showcases the notebooks and manuscripts that have become classics including War Horse, Private Peaceful, Kensuke’s Kingdom and Farm Boy.
Also on display in the characteristically playful Seven Stories exhibition are photographs and correspondences that chronicle Michael’s creative process and writing career.
An atmospheric soundscape introduces the various and familiar themes in Michael’s storytelling such as war, animals and friendship and a replica of his creative caravan is reconstructed so that visitors can imagine, daydream and pen story ideas.
Also featured is artwork from many of the illustrators who have contributed to his books, including Sir Quentin Blake and Patrick Benson, alongside props from stage and film which have brought his remarkable stories to life.
This exhibition is devised by Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children’s Books, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
