Local History

Staff in our Local and Family History Service care for the reference collection, previously held at the Dick Institute. The local history collections are essential to our appreciation of local and national heritage and include books, maps, photographs and local newspapers. They help us to understand our past and tell the story of our communities by preserving the memory of people, events, buildings and organisations for future generations.

The Burns Monument Centre houses previously scattered local history resources, and together with the archive collections (Ayrshire Archives) and Scotlands People (Registration Services), provides a wonderful resource for anyone interested in Ayrshire’s past.
