Ayrshire Archives is the local authority archive service for South Ayrshire Council, East Ayrshire Council and North Ayrshire Council.
The Ayrshire Archives Service was established in 1996 by the three Ayrshire councils to preserve and make accessible Ayrshire’s documentary heritage. The archive service looks after and provides access to records of historical importance belonging to the three local authorities and their predecessors, as well as private records that relate to the historical development of Ayrshire and Arran.
Material held at Burns Monument Centre includes official records from the East Ayrshire burghs of Cumnock, Darvel, Galston, Kilmarnock, Newmilns and Greenholm and Stewarton, dating back to the 1600s. We have a significant collection of Church records from the Ayr and Irvine Presbyteries. We also hold non-official records including documents and photographs from local businesses, groups, societies and estates. These records tell the fascinating story of many aspects of the history of this area.
Being a pan-Ayrshire organisation, Ayrshire Archives are based at the Burns Monument Centre one day a week therefore access to the archives is by appointment only. To book an appointment please contact Ayrshire Archives on email@example.com or 01292 521819.
