Dean Castle Restoration Project
After the pandemic caused lengthy delays to the restoration of Dean Castle, we are delighted that work began again at the beginning of February. Over the next year, work on the stonework of the Keep, Palace and Gatehouse will be completed together with internal works and the restoration of the former laundry houses.
While these works continue, our curators are busy working behind the scenes cleaning and condition checking the collections, including the Arms & Armour, making them ready for redisplay in the Castle.

East Ayrshire Council, supported by East Ayrshire Leisure, were awarded £1.5m from Heritage Lottery Fund towards the restoration and modernisation of Dean Castle. The project has a total cost of £5.2m, with funding of £500k also secured from Historic Environment Scotland, and the remainder coming from East Ayrshire Council.
