Your Local Library is Open

We have missed our library members over the last months and would like to offer a warm welcome back to our customers and hope that as time progresses, we can return to normal conditions. We know our customers have missed visiting our venues and borrowing books, and therefore we anticipate demand to be extremely high when we re-open our libraries. With this in mind, we thank you in advance for your patience in using our services during the initial period of service, where we are introducing systems and processes that are new to us and to you. Please know that we are working hard to deliver library services in these unusual circumstances, and would ask that members show kindness and understanding to our staff throughout this period of change.

We will be opening all our libraries week commencing 10th August for browsing, loaning, computer access, photocopying and printing.

  • You must wear a mask when visiting any of our venues (other than those with exemptions);
  • You will be asked to provide your contact details on entering our venues to support the Scottish Government’s Trace and Protect initiative. Please complete the form, ensure you put a date on it and place it in the Trace and Protect box on the counter;
  • We will be limiting the numbers of visitors to our venues so please be patient if there is a queue;
  • Library stock handled but not selected for loan must be placed on a trolley and not returned to shelf to allow books to be cleaned prior to return to shelf;
  • We are pleased to advise library members that temporarily, fines have been withdrawn and there will be no charge for print outs and photocopying. We will ask you to please consider making a like for like donation to support our ability to provide these services;
  • Access to use of a PC will be for library members only. Strictly one person per PC (excluding carers). You can join for free at any library. Time will be limited to 45 minutes with extensions if demand is low. PC access is by appointment only. Please contact your local library directly to arrange. A note of the local libraries telephone numbers can be found here
  • Please note that whilst 72 hour quarantining of titles continues, stock will be limited and reservations are restricted to a maximum of three titles per member;
  • Please observe physical distancing and help protect yourself, other customers and staff.

 Our library opening hours are temporarily changing to allow for preparation and cleaning before, during and after we are open to the public:

CUSTOMER CONFIDENCE IN USING OUR SERVICES

We want to reassure our library customers that we are following strict quarantine guidelines with returned books being placed into storage for 72 hours before being returned to stock rotation. Onsite we have introduced distancing systems with sanitisation stations at the point of entry and exit for customers to make use of.

We ask that if you develop any symptoms associated with COVID-19 prior to your visit that you refrain from entering any of our venues. Should you develop any symptoms following your collection that you inform us immediately to allow contact tracing. You can do this by contacting the Dick Institute on 01563 554310.

Please take note of the following information & safety measures and ensure that they are adhered to at all times.

 Arrival/Departure

  • Please give your details to a staff member on arrival;
  • You should follow all signposted instructions and one-way systems;
  • It is your responsibility to observe the 2-metre social distancing rule from others.

As outlined, until we are able to entirely resume normal service, we have introduced these control measures which must be adhered to at all times to keep customers and staff as safe as possible. We need your support and patience in these difficult times and we hope you will respect that our staff are keen to assist but East Ayrshire Leisure will not allow staff to be placed in a position of unacceptable risk.  The information above has been prepared to meet the Scottish Government/Scottish Libraries Information Council guidance and legislation. East Ayrshire Leisure reserve the right to remove any individual who is found to be knowingly in breach of the guidance or the spirit of this guidance and will not hesitate to do so.

Finally, please be reassured that we will be carefully monitoring the implementation and impact of these controls and will amend and improve practice for the benefit of all wherever and whenever possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read this guidance, and we look forward to welcoming you to one of our libraries soon.
