The World of Martin Brown: Horrible Histories and Other Dazzling Drawings

Discover Horrible Histories and other dazzling drawings from bestselling author and illustrator, Martin Brown.

The World of Martin Brown exhibition highlights the cartoonist’s work from the popular Horrible Histories series and features other dazzling drawings.

Explore an inspirational array of cartoons and art by Martin, from his beginnings drawing cartoons for magazines and greeting cards, to the mega-best-selling Horrible Histories and Lesser Spotted Animal books. Plus tonnes more cartoons including never before seen illustrations from Martin’s latest series Nell and the Cave Bear. In this interactive exhibition visitors can try their hand at drawing using Martin’s techniques and be inspired by Martin’s tricks of the cartoon trade.

Martin Brown is among the most accomplished cartoonists of his generation. Since 1993 Martin has illustrated Horrible Histories, working with author Terry Deary to create one of the best-loved series of children’s books ever published. Underpinning all his work is Martin’s wish to use the power of illustration to entertain and educate, and his belief that everyone should pick up a pencil and draw.

This exhibition was first created by the South West Heritage Trust in collaboration with Martin Brown and Events of Wonder, for display at The Museum of Somerset in Taunton.
