Sign Up Here For Our Free Cartoon and Caricature Art Classes This Autumn!

Are you interested in learning how to draw cartoons and caricatures? East Ayrshire Leisure Trust is offering you the chance to embrace your artistic side this Autumn by signing up to our Cartoon and Caricature Art Class Series, taught by professional cartoonists!

Inspired by our up-and-coming 2026 exhibition on legendary Ayrshire-based cartoonist Malky McCormick, these classes will be a chance to develop your skills and find your personal artistic style. The Scottish Cartoon Art Studio are teaching the classes, providing participants with the chance to learn from the experts! Each week the classes will cover relevant principles such as facial anatomy, funny faces, thick and thin lines and how to implement humour and satire into your artwork.

For the Kids and Teens classes, students will all have the exciting opportunity to complete a piece of artwork for display in our world-renowned museum, The Dick Institute. These artworks will be featured, alongside the artist’s name, in an exhibition of budding cartoonists that will open in December 2025. This exhibition will take place in our Young People’s Gallery alongside our Main Gallery February 2026 exhibition, Malky McCormick: A Life in Colour.

The class space will be comfortable and relaxed, with fidget toys and our café, making it an inclusive and enjoyable place to spend one day a week taking classes in. These classes are completely free - fully funded by Museums Galleries Scotland. Participants only need to bring themselves as all materials will be provided! We welcome all interested in the art of caricature and cartoon, from complete beginners to artists who are keen to improve their work.

Kids Cartoon and Caricature Classes (Age 8 to 11)

To apply, please download the appropriate form for the class series you wish to attend and write a few words about why you would like to take part in this exciting opportunity. Places will be offered on a first come first served basis. A paper copy of each application form is also available to be collected at and returned to The Dick Institute. Please return your form at info@eastayrshireleisure.com by the 29th of July.
