Killie-catures!

An exhibition of caricatures by local young people, inspired by Malky McCormick.

Last Autumn, local young people were invited to join us at The Dick Institute to learn how to draw caricatures! Over a series of weekly classes, our students learned the basics of caricature – observation and exaggeration. Professional artists from The Scottish Cartoon Art Studio were brought in to both teach and inspire.

The curriculum was full of different topics, from the use of pencil sketches as a place to start and the importance of thick and thin lines when “inking” a final drawing. Equipped with a toolkit of new techniques, each young artist created a final celebrity caricature.
We invite you to explore their amazing work in this gallery. Laughter is encouraged!

These classes were funded by Museum Galleries Scotland as part of The Malky McCormick Project at East Ayrshire Leisure Trust, a series of exhibitions and events inspired by legendary Scottish Cartoonist and Caricaturist Malky McCormick.
