Malky Mc Cormick A Life In Colour

Malky McCormick lived his life in colour.

Malky McCormick (1943-2019) is recognised as one of Scotland’s best cartoonists. Malky’s cartoons and caricatures reached across Scotland and beyond with national campaigns, weekly newspaper segments, radio interviews, TV show appearances and work for countless companies and organisations. The art displayed in The Dick Institute's main gallery lets us look back at Scotland’s history through the eyes of ‘McCormick.'

Over the last 15 months, East Ayrshire Leisure Trust has had the privilege of cataloguing and curating Malky McCormick’s body of work – from his childhood drawings to his final pieces before his death. Although appearing in smaller exhibitions over the years, this is the first time that examples from every stylistic period of Malky’s career have been displayed in a major exhibition. We invite you to reflect, laugh and reminisce as you explore Malky’s art and the impact it had on his community.

The exhibition dates are 5 February, 2026 - 16 May, 2026. Malky McCormick: A Life in Colour features interviews from Billy Connolly, Tam Cowan, Tich Frier and over a dozen other friends and colleagues of Malky's through the years.

The digitisation project received generous support from local business Brownings the Baker whose sponsorship funded audio equipment that helped bring Malky’s work to life for visitors.
