This summer at the Dick Institute… step into a world of strange stories, dark fairy tales and curious characters!
Join us for four days of fabulous creative adventure where you’ll invent your own twisted tales inspired by our summer exhibitions and the weird and wonderful objects hidden in our museum collections. From enchanted artefacts to mischievous monsters, we’ll use drawing, cartooning, printmaking, performance and games to bring these stories to life.

Downstairs in our Main Gallery, we’ll take inspiration from powerful and imaginative artworks that reimagine classic stories through bold characters, dramatic scenes and dark twists — including work by renowned artist Paula Rego. Her mysterious, emotional images will help us think about fairy tales in completely new ways.

Upstairs in the engagement space, we’ll be looking at cartoons by legendary Scottish illustrator Malky McCormick and creating our own hilarious and mischievous characters to add a playful twist to our storytelling.

We’ll also be digging into the museum collections to spark ideas — exploring curious objects, local legends and magical items to inspire new narratives and artworks. And of course, we’ll take a trip to Dean Castle, where history meets imagination, and the stories practically write themselves!

The week will end in a fun and informal sharing for friends and family — where we’ll showcase everything we’ve been up to.

Expect eerie forests, enchanted props, magical printmaking and lots of laughs. If you love storytelling, drama, art and a little bit of mystery — this is the camp for you!

Bring your pack lunch and a snack each day to keep energy up for all our activities!!!
