Look Out Wildlife!

Over the last few years, there appears to be more incidents of roadkill on roads around our towns and villages. Changing climate and land use is bringing wildlife closer to where people live. Spotting a deer in your garden, a cheeky fox running across the street or an otter splashing about the river is exhilarating. Living in harmony with nature is so important to our wellbeing and the outdoors has never been more important.

To monitor the level of roadkill and to develop plans to minimise the incidents, East Ayrshire Leisure Trust, East Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Roads Alliance have developed a citizen science project to encourage everyone to report roadkill. This will allow us to identify hotspots and to work with local communities and partners in the development of an action plan that will protect wildlife from road users.

Over the next few months, we are asking you to help us understand where and when wildlife roadkill occurs on roads in East Ayrshire. We are interested in birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles.

Please let us know where, when and what species you have seen as roadkill by completing the survey below.
