New 'Leisure Hub' Proposal
On the 28th October 2020, East Ayrshire Council’s cabinet approved a report outlining a proposal for the creation of a new place based “Leisure Hub” model for the Auchinleck and Cumnock area. The hub would be managed by East Ayrshire Leisure in partnership with key community stakeholders and would facilitate a co-ordinated approach to all of the publicly funded and operated leisure facilities in the area. With Auchinleck Academy now vacated, the future of the Leisure Centre, which is within the PE block needs to be determined taking into account the costs associated with making it a stand alone building, and the additional running costs that will be incurred.
Background Information
Current Budget for Auchinleck Leisure Centre
The venue currently generates approximately £70,000 per year in income
The venues current expenditure costs (including staffing) is approximately £125,000 per year
Future Expenditure Costs
Anticipated one off costs to set the venue up as a stand alone building in its current form - £2.9 million. This is mainly due to the services e.g. boilers to be separated from the school’s main building.
The Auchinleck School campus costs are in the region of £350,000 per year, which accounts mainly for utility bills, water and domestic rates, refuse collections and pool chemicals. It has been estimated from that there would be a requirement to find in excess of £80,000 plus any additional staffing costs to offer daytime usage if it were to be a stand alone building.
If you are a user of the venue, we would like to get your thoughts on the future of the building and how we can make it financially viable. The survey closes on Sunday 21st March.
