Communities

Community Action Plans play a key role in Community Planning in East Ayrshire, giving local people a chance to have a say in decisions affecting their communities.
The plans are part of the approach to planning based on local areas, as required by the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015. This allows communities to take charge of planning, setting priorities, and leading regeneration efforts in their area. Representatives from Community Councils and the Community Action Plan Forum are now part of the Community Planning Partnership Board.
These plans are shaped by the community, with input gathered from local people before they are finalised. A plan only becomes official if at least 40% of households participate, ensuring broad community support. The plans identify what matters most to the community and how they want to achieve their goals. This process ensures local people have a real influence on decisions in their area.

So far, 25 Community Action Plans have been created with support from Vibrant Communities, plus five additional partner plans across East Ayrshire. Creating a Community Action Plan is voluntary, but Vibrant Communities is committed to supporting any community that wants to develop one. The process helps build local skills and empowers people to create a five-year plan for their community.
